Ben Coleman Origami Bonsai Author Interview with @BookGoodies

Author Ben Coleman joins BookGoodies podcast host Deborah Carney to talk about books, writing and current projects.

I’m a former high school math teacher and computer entrepreneur – turned artist, author and inventor! My education was highly technical; engineering, mathematics, and economics. When people began referring to me as an “artist” I felt confused and a little embarrassed. I had never considered the matter.

Over time I have come to understand that I am an artist; in fact everyone is an artist. Each person combines their unique perspective, a lifetime of seeing, touching, feeling and experiencing, into their work. My goal is to unleash the artist in you. I consider myself no more than a facilitator. My techniques are designed to be simple, yet they have infinite possibilities.

Perhaps you will express your artistic side, just like I do, with a discrete emphasis on the technical, or maybe you will discover an aspect of this art form I have not yet explored. Whichever path you choose, I hope you will enjoy following it, and my books are here to help you along the way.

Origami Bonsai is my first book and one of three books in a series for creating botanical sculptures made from paper.

Origami 101 is a book that takes several new approaches to teaching origami. My hope is that this book will make origami accessible to the scores of people that previously considered it too complex.

You can see many more pictures of Origami Bonsai sculptures made by people from all over the world, as well as a free magazine devoted to Origami Bonsai, and folding videos and lots more at http://www.OrigamiBonsai.org

David Small Author Interview with @BookGoodies

Author David Small joins BookGoodies podcast host Deborah Carney for an interview about his book of “Small” stories and his advice for authors.

From David:
My first book was published this spring, called Small Stories, and it has been quite a ride. It is actually a scary thing dealing with critics and reviews. You put your heart out there, and it’s fair game and open for anyone. However, I love it all, it’s an adventure worth talking about, and I can’t wait for my next book to be published this fall. My personal website is www.david-small.net and my corporate website is www.smallworldinc.net.

Fournier is also the author of a book-length discussion of the Minutemen’s 1984 album “Double Nickels On The Dime,” the 45th installment of Continuum Press’s “33 1/3” series. He booked multiple do-it- yourself tours to promote the book upon its 2007 release and read in bookstores, clubs, and galleries in Baltimore, Boston, Brooklyn, Chicago, Concord NH, Easthampton MA, New York City, Olympia WA, Philadelphia, Portland ME, Seattle, San Francisco, and Worcester MA. He’s shared stages with Richard Hell, Duncan Wilder Johnson, Zeth Lundy, Amanda Petrusich, Mike Watt and countless bands.

His History of Punk Rock class at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts boasted visits from such scene luminaries as Steve Brodsky and Adam McGrath (Cave In), Clint Conley (Mission of Burma), Ian MacKaye (Dischord Records/Fugazi), and Shred (WBCN-FM).

James Tenedero is a Montreal author, PhD student, (sometime) adventurer, and (unrepentant) bibliophile. After stints in corporate finance and management consulting, James answered the calling of academia: he is currently enrolled in PhD studies at McGill University with the hopes of eventually securing his place in the ivory tower.

When he’s not writing fiction, James can be found in his office researching organizational innovation and writing non-fiction. THE CONSISTENCY OF PARCHMENT is his first full-length novel.

Jennifer Fromke Author Interview with @BookGoodies

Author Jennifer Fromke joins BookGoodies podcast host Deborah Carney to talk about books, writing and current projects.

Jennifer Fromke was born and raised in Michigan, attended Wheaton College in IL, and lived her first married years in Minneapolis, MN. She writes from North Carolina these days where she pines away for cooler temps amidst a sea of people drinking sweet tea. Her biggest fans are her husband of 20 years and her three children, who keep her life filled with brilliant colors and big dreams. They eagerly await their annual trip to northern Michigan and time together on their favorite lake.

From Jennifer:
My debut novel is entitled “A Familiar Shore.” The manuscript won the 2010 Genesis Award for Women’s Fiction given by American Christian Fiction Writers group. The back cover copy reads: Meg Marks is a young lawyer raised off the coast of the Carolinas. An anonymous client hires her to arrange his will, and sends her to meet his estranged family at their lake home in northern Michigan. After a shocking discovery, she finds herself caught between his suspicious family and a deathbed promise her conscience demands that she keep. Will she sacrifice her own dreams for revenge, or will she choose something more?

The largest portion of the book takes place in northern Michigan on Lake Charlevoix, but there are scenes at the coast of North Carolina, Charlotte, NC, Savannah, GA, at sea on the ocean and Key West, FL.

This novel was published traditionally through a smaller publisher and is available in print and digital formats.

I also self-pubbed a Christmas short story which is available in digital format only.

I’m currently at work on another novel which leans even more toward women’s fiction and I’m fighting back emerging ideas for further projects so I can finish this next one asap!
