Author Maryann Reid joins BookGoodies podcast host Deborah Carney to talk about books, writing and current projects.

Award-winning author (St. Martins Press) and entrepreneur Maryann Reid has been featured by countless media outlets including USA Today, Essence, Glamour, The CBS Early Show, and The Wendy Williams Experience.

Maryann’s first book Sex and the Single Sister: 5 Novellas was published by St. Martins Press when she was just 25 years old. At that time, Maryann had no idea that a few stories she wrote in her journal would become characters and later become a book. But she quickly learned the power of the media and pop culture influence on publishers and their decision-making. Because of the popularity of HBO’s Sex and The City, she hit the zeitgeist she sold her first book without it being finished. She signed her first book deal with St. Martins and the strong support of a stellar agent.

Author of Short Scripts Genevieve Sipperley Interview with @BookGoodies

Author Genevieve Sipperley joins BookGoodies podcast host Deborah Carney to talk about books, writing and current projects.

From Genna:
I was born and raised in Alaska. My town, called North Pole, was pretty small and I spent many nights writing away in my room as I watched snow fall outside my window. When I was younger, I started off writing mostly poetry and short stories. I was first nationally published when I was 16 and my first volume of poetry was published when I was 18. I had some minor success as a poet and short story writer, but after I graduated high school and left home for Chicago, I went to film school and that is when I knew I wanted to make the transition to screenwriting. During film school I studied Motion Picture and Television Screenwriting and I’ve been writing screenplay and scripts full-time ever since. I’ve sold a handful of short scripts and currently have a feature script being optioned.

“Lights, Camera – Wait, What?” is more than just a book of short scripts. There are notes on filmmaking that are ideal for new or independent filmmakers, as well as a quick guide on how to read a script. This book is filled with screenplays to film, scripts to read as short stories, or notes to use as a guide when writing or filming a script. Enjoy all of the different genres, characters, and ideas in this book of collected original short screenplays.

Curtis Kessinger Author Interview Podcast With @BookGoodies

Curtis Kessinger, Founder of Film School Now and Success Minded Coaching and author/publisher of two books Just Shoot It! and The Ultimate You joins BookGoodies host Deborah Carney to discuss how and why he decided to write his books. He also shares his views on publishing and his writing style.

From Curtis:

The initial reason I self-published my filmmaking book Just Shoot It! is that the big name in filmmaking books told me I would probably never make a dime if I published the book myself or even had him publish it. Six years later the money keeps coming in, so I am of the ilk to always prove people wrong when they say something cannot be done. Everything is possible.
My second book The Ultimate You: Achieving Greatness is my success book which gives people the information they need to be successful in whatever it is they choose. It is meant for those underdogs out there who have dreams they need to achieve and this book will give them the tools to do it.

Co-authors & Newlyweds Antonio and Alvin Lopez-Woods Author Interview @BookGoodies

Don’t let the title fool you, this book isn’t about gay sex, it is about relationships between people. Co-authors and newlyweds, Antonio and Alvin Lopez-Woods join BookGoodies podcast host Deborah Carney for an in-depth discussion about their marriage, their book and advice for writers about not only writing, but about marketing as well.

From Alvin and Antonio:
*The Best Workout is “Sex”: A Gay Guide to Your Ideal Marriage * – The first all-inclusive relationship guide, is poised to bring much needed attention to the joys, trials, and tribulations that all couples face on their respective journey to an ideal partnership, regardless of sexual orientation.

Co-authors and newlyweds, Antonio and Alvin Lopez-Woods, have written a book to further bridge the equality gap by focusing on several facets of two people in a relationship. The overarching theme of *The Best Workout is “Sex”: A Gay Guide to Your Ideal Marriage* is love and respect – two principles that people crave in humanity. Mr. and Mr. Lopez-Woods advocate the need for all couples to work on intimate relationship factors such as emotional and mental “sex,” ultimately enhancing the physical connection between the two.

The book has been available for two months and has garnered rave reviews, made Amazon’s best-sellers list, and the title is being picked up by international and national bookstores. The title was also named one of the best summer ’12 LGBT themed books by Pink Magazine, The Edge, Hot Spots Magazine, and Grab Chicago.

Joseph Picard Author Interview

Sci-fi author Joseph Picard joins BookGoodies host Deborah Carney to discuss his journey from writer to publication as well as his current projects.

From Joseph:
I’ve been fumbling with self-pub for roughly a decade, when it was becoming apparent I had a novel on my hands. After looking into (but venturing into) the tedium of submitting to traditional publishers, self-pub seemed the way to go. But of course, it’s not all simple, and there’s a lot of scams (and plain bad deals) out there to avoid.

I was lucky enough to have a skillset (graphic arts, photoshop, patience for general computer BS) that allowed me to get most of what needed to be done on my own, and am working on my fourth book.

Joseph Picard
Sci-fi author of Lifehack, Watching Yute, and ‘Echoes of Erebus’
